Reducing Stress Can Help Reduce Seasonal Allergy Symptoms

Posted on April 04 2014

As we’re finally starting to see some of the first signs of spring, many people are starting to stock their medicine cabinets in preparation for spring allergies.   If you’re dreading the constant runny nose, sneezing, and watery eyes that plague allergy sufferers, than you are not alone. 35 million American’s suffer from seasonal allergies, and the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) explains that those numbers are rapidly rising, affecting up to 30% of adults and 40% of children.   Although allergies aren’t caused by stress, a new study published in the scientific journal Annals of AllergyAsthma & Immunology, indicates that reducing stress levels may be an effective method for reducing allergy symptoms. Researchers from the OhioStateUniversity found that those with higher stress levels were almost twice as likely as those with low stress levels to have more frequent and more severe allergy attacks.   While reducing stress levels won’t completely alleviate allergy symptoms, research shows that it will help decrease the severity of allergy attacks.
