Autoclave Sterilizers
Medical equipment autoclave sterilizers utilize a contained environment for subjecting instruments to high pressure saturated steam at over 121 degrees Celsius. Though many medical instruments are now single use items, those that are reusable can be disinfected and prepared for repeated use safely and efficiently. Autoclaves and sterilization products are designed to ensure complete sterility and provide adequate proof of effectiveness.
Autoclave sterilizers seal equipment within by forcing high temperature steam inside the containment unit and forcing any ambient air out through drains. This raises the temperature and saturation of the items within cleaning and deactivating any bacteria that may exist on the equipment. Autoclaves are designed to perform at various levels to ensure complete sterilization of equipment and deactivation of harmful bacteria. Levels above 121 Celsius may be required for certain strains of spore or bacteria. However, since temperature levels and bacterial response may vary, sterilization equipment is designed to process to successful completion.
Though autoclave sterilizers have self testing capability and researched performance levels, there are also methods of providing verification of complete sterilization eliminating the guesswork. Reactive tapes and pouches are available that provide a clear indicator that the process has been completed. Since equipment sterilization is highly important in medical treatment, devices and associated autoclave products are designed to provide effective performance and process validation.
