Oxygen Concentrators
Home and facility use oxygen concentrators provide a safe and affordable alternative to oxygen tanks and are readily available for purchase or lease. Patients requiring higher levels of oxygen than ambient air can provide will benefit from having simple adjustment ability for effective delivery when they need it.

Oxygen concentrators function simply by moving air through two chambers that remove excess levels of nitrogen from ambient air. An adjustment knob on the unit allows a patient or provider to increase or decrease the amount of oxygen being delivered to allow for more respiratory comfort. Additionally, the cycled air is filtered helping to remove additional particulates that may be disruptive to a patient’s breathing.

The use of oxygen concentrators is primarily, but not limited to, for treating chronic lung conditions like COPD or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Due to decreased lung function, these patients can receive vital levels of oxygen with the assistance of this type of unit. Units may also be suggested for use in the treatment of sleep apnea and cluster headaches. However, as with any medical treatment, it is important to follow physician direction regarding oxygen concentration to avoid potentially harmful side effects.

Though primarily designed for home use, portable oxygen concentrators are also available to assist with travel. Mobile patients may acquire units that are able to deliver as high as 3 liters per minute (about half the use of a home unit). These units can be plugged into AC or DC power sources to provide increased mobility.
