In Home Alzheimer's Care

In-home Alzheimer's care consists of a set of services designed to assist both the caregiver and patient. Services may vary by provider but should allow for adjustment to fit the patient’s, and the caregiver’s needs.

Companion Services:

Companion services provide supervision of activities and visits. These services are excellent if the primary caregiver has an appointment or needs to run errands occasionally.

Personal Care Services:

These services assist the primary caregiver with bathing, toileting, dressing, and exercising responsibilities.

Homemaker Services:

These services assist with general housekeeping, shopping, and meal preparation.

Some Alzheimer’s patients may elect to use any, or all, of these services even if they are independent at home. Getting used to having help can make an individual feel more comfortable about the transition into needing full-time care. Also, the patient has an opportunity to meet potential long-term caregivers and to help make decisions regarding who they are comfortable with.

Aides that provide in-home care services are available for private employment, agencies, and government programs. Specific services, as well as costs, may vary between workers and agencies. There are aides available who have training specifically in the field of Alzheimer’s care. These aides are familiar with the progression of the disease and with proper care of Alzheimer’s patients. Some aides may not have formal training with Alzheimer’s patients, but have a general knowledge of the disease and are willing to learn.

Generally in-home care services are funded by private payment. Some financial assistance programs may be available, however, in-home care is not covered by Medicare.

Home care products for patients are readily available for order through our website. Find a wide variety of items; at great low prices. Orders can also be placed by calling 1-888-687-4334 and speaking with one of our exceptional Medical Supply Specialists.
