Convatec Aloe Vesta Antifungal Ointment helps cure most superficial fungal infections using a special comination of 2 % miconazole nitrate mixed with a petrolatum based ointment. The petrolatum, which forms an occlusive barrier, repels moisture and softens affected skin while it relieves itching, scaling, cracking, and discomfort. When the skin's moisture barier is lost, an increase in normal bacterial flora and pathogenic bacteria or fungi occurs. Patients with fecal and urinary incontinence face the greatest risk of secondary infection because they are exposed to gastrointestinal flora and digestive enzymes that are endemic in the stool. Fungal infections typically occur in the perineal area or in the body folds where moisture and warmth are present. Fungal infections of the skin may be treated with topical agents such as Aloe Vesta Antifungal Ointment.
