What is a closed system catheter?
A closed system catheter is a urological catheter kit that helps prevents the spread of disease. It is a catheter that does what it’s designed to do without increasing your risk of contracting a urinary tract infection (UTI) – which is common among even intermittent catheter users. Because most of the infection-causing bacteria in the urinary tract is located within the first 15 mm of the urethra, it is easy to spread it all the way up to the bladder. The Apogee closed system catheter, however, prevents this by utilizing Hollister’s Introducer tip. This specialized tip blocks bacteria from latching onto the catheter, which keeps it from spreading throughout the urinary tract and causing an infection.
