What does a stress test measure?
A stress test is used to identify possible signs and symptoms of heart disease and can show what areas of the heart aren’t getting enough blood. The most common is the treadmill stress test. As you walk on the treadmill, your doctor will monitor you for chest pain, ECG (electrocardiogram) changes and other abnormal heart activity during both exercise and rest. An echocardiogram clearly graphs and measures heart movement onto a monitor which illustrates any abnormal resting and non-resting movement for your doctor.
It is used to diagnose heart-related symptoms such as chest pain or lightheadedness; coronary heart disease, to check the effectiveness of heart treatments; and to determine safe exercise levels for you based on how your heart handles activity.
