How is a Foley Catheter Clap Used?

A catheter is needed when a person cannot control their bladder. It is a tube that is inserted into the bladder and connects to a drainage bag that, depending on the patient’s situation, is strapped to either the patient’s thigh or a hospital bed. Periodically, as the bag is gradually filled with urine, it will have to be emptied. This is where the catheter connector clamp comes in - it is used to prevent urine leakage as the patient or the practitioner changes or empties the drainage bag when it is nearly full. The clamp is tightened along the tubing as the bag is detached for emptying.  By preventing urine leakage, the clamp connector provides the patient and healthcare provider with a cleaner, simpler way to care for their incontinence system without the mess.
