What causes Colon Cancer?
Colorectal cancer is characterized as cancerous polyps, or abnormal growths located in the colon or rectal area of the body. It is usually identified by administering a screening test, such as a fecal occult blood test, to see if there are traces of blood in the stool, and followed up with a colonoscopy, which allows the doctor to actually see and remove the polyps, if they can.
The main risk factor here is age. This type of cancer is less likely to occur in people under the age of 40. Other causes include diets high if fat and low in fiber, obesity, sedentary lifestyles, smoking, alcohol, family history of the disease, or a disease/condition that is linked to this type of cancer. Getting regular colorectal/stool screenings for this disease is an excellent idea because it can be easily treated and cured if it has been caught early enough.
