Who should be screened for colorectal cancer?

The large intestine, also known as the colon, can be susceptible to polyps which can become cancerous. Colorectal cancer is deadly if not treated, or caught early enough. A fecal occult blood test (FOBT) is one way to detect signs of this disease. Occult blood is blood located in the stool that is not visible to the naked eye and is a result of slow bleeding from the intestinal tract. This can occur long before colon cancer symptoms are present, which makes this disease one that is usually easily treatable.
