What is the purpose of the fluff filling in a sterile pad?

Non-woven pads are denser than woven pads, but to add to the absorbency many gauze pads include a “fluff” layer at the center to keep the moisture from the wound inside the pad. The fluff core allows moisture to be evenly distributed throughout the center of the pad to keep the wound drier and cleaner as it heals. These types of wound dressings are also more economical for your facility because a pad with higher absorbency means less frequent dressing changes.
