How can a pulse oximeter help my asthmatic child?

Asthma is a chronic disease that is triggered by allergens, increased physical activity or stress (to name a few) and is characterized by narrowing of the airways due to inflammation, which decreases the amount of oxygen received by the lungs. Many children develop asthma at a young age and are unable to communicate when they are having trouble breathing. This is where a pulse oximeter comes in handy. It is non-invasive and takes literally seconds to get a reading. This compact device helps parents monitor their child’s health and symptoms wherever they go to make sure that they are getting enough oxygen and can be given the treatment needed before their symptoms get out of hand.
