Bulb Syringe vs Piston Syringe
There are two types of Irrigation Trays; the first has a Bulb Syringe and the other type has a Piston Syringe. The bulb syringe has a round rubber ball squeezer which looks like a turkey baster. A piston syringe has a ring-like end where you thumb fits into and can be drawn back. The piston syringe has an inner barrel that slides back as it is drawn. The bulb syringe does not have an inner barrel and simply pulls the fluid into the bulb end with suction that is created as the bulb is squeezes. Both types work the same and it is personal preference.
Why would my bladder need irrigating?
Sometimes following prostate surgery or a condition that resulted in calculi to build up in the bladder, irrigation is used to flush the debris out. This helps to keep your bladder free and clear to do what it was designed to do without the risk of infection, or a painful blockage. If you bladder is irritated, inflamed or actually infected, sometimes a physician will use this method to treat your condition.
An irrigation tray provides your physician with everything he/she will need to do this. They are economical for the facility, and help the process go more efficiently for you. This particular syringe irrigation tray also comes with some of the equipment used to irrigate a catheter, if that is needed, as well.
