What is a “Lubricath” catheter?
The word “Lubricath” refers to the hydrogel coating that lines the outside of this Bard brand catheter. Bard's hydrogel has the ability to absorb moisture and provide the patient with a slick, cushioned gel barrier between the walls of the urethra and the latex catheter itself. This helps the tubing to be more easily inserted, thus preventing trauma to the patient. The gel barrier lasts throughout use, so removal is just as easy. This particular Lubricath catheter has a coude tip, which is contoured so that it is more easily maneuvered up through the urethra and into the bladder.
