Integrity Medical Gauze Wound Packing Strips are a sterile, moist strip used to pack wound cavities to prevent bacteria from entering the wound. The Packing Strip gauze is specially made with a woven gauze that will not unravel, lint or fray in the cavity. Packing Strips are available in different widths and come in plain or impregnated with an iodoform solution.
How do I use Wound Packing Strips?
Answer - Loosely pack the wound cavity carefully with fluffed, moist sterile gauze packing. Make sure that all wound surfaces are covered and kept moist so that complete debridement can take place and granulation tissue can maintain hydration. Loosely pack the wound only until wound surfaces and edges are covered. Packing that overlaps the edges can cause maceration of surrounding tissue.
What are some things I should avoid when packing a wound?
Answer - Do not pack the wound cavity to tight. Leave some room for the wound to heal and breathe. Do not use non sterile wound packing strips or non sterile gloves as this may infect the wound cavity and lead to other serious medical conditions. Avoid using toxic solutions in the cavity or when flushing the wound.
Are these wound strips made in the United States?
Answer - Yes, Integrity Medical is based in Hammonton New Jersey where they manufacture wound packing strips and other disposable wound care products.
