Hospira Bacteriostatic Sodium Chloride for injection USP is a sterile, multiple dose vial that repeated withdrawals may be made to dilute or dissolve drugs for medication. Each milliliter (ml) contains sodium chloride 9 mg and 0.9% (9 mg/ml) benzyl alcohol added as a bacteriostatic preservative. May contain hydrochloric acid for pH adjustment. The pH is 5.0 (4.5 to 7.0).

Sodium Chloride, USP is chemically designated NaCl, an white crystalline powder freely soluble in water.

What is the difference between Bacteriostatic Sodium Chloride vs Sodium Chloride for injection?

Bacteriostatic Sodium Chloride for injection has an extra preservative agent added into the solution called benzyl alcohol (BnOH). Benzyl alcohol is a colorless liquid that has low toxicity, and low vapor pressure.

Sodium Chloride for injection is a single dose solution that does not contain any bacteriostatic, antimicrobial agents, and added buffers.

 

 

Is Bacteriostatic Sodium Chloride available in other size vials?

The 30ml size vial is the only Sodium Chloride with Bacteriostatic available for injection. Sodium Chloride without the Bacteriostatic preservative is available in 10, 20 and 50 ml vials.
