Coloplast Seasorb Soft Alginate Dressing is a sterile, fiber-free, highly absorbent dressing composed of a unique combination of alginate and carboxymethylecellulose (CMC) for deep cavity or weeping wounds. When Seasorb dressing is on contact with wound exudates, the dressing forms a moist gel through ion exchange. SeaSorb dressing is easy to apply and remains intact after absorbing exudates, allowing one-piece removal. SeaSorb is used to manage wounds with heavy exudates, such as leg ulcers and pressure ulcers. May also be used in clinically infected wounds, for which concurrent systemic antibiotic therapy may be given if indicated.

SeaSorb Soft dressing is easy to apply. On contact with wound exudates it converts to a soft cohesive gel which provides the optimal moist wound healing environment. The gel allows atraumatic removal of SeaSorb soft dressing. Seasorb soft alginate dressing with silver combines the absorption qualities of SeaSorb soft with controlled, silver release technology, for faster healing of highly exuding, deep cavity wounds.

Application - Choose a dressing large enough to allow an overlap of 3/8" onto the surrounding skin. The SeaSorb dressing may be cut to size if necessary. Apply the SeaSorb dressing so that the printed side of the dressing is up and the non-printed side is in contact with the skin surface. Use a secondary dressing, such as Biatain foam dressing or a semi permeable film dressing

Removal - Change the dressing when it's saturated with exudates and it has reached maximum absorption capacity. Change the dressing every 7 days or more often if necessary. Dressing change may be required every day for the first, few days. As franulation occurs, however, exudation decreases, and fewer changes are needed.

Directions for SeaSorb Soft Alginate Dressing -
Rinse the wound with Sea-Cleans (Wound Cleanser) or normal saline. Gently dry the skin around the wound.
When SeaSorb Soft Dressing is saturated with exudates, it needs to be changed. As granulation tissue occurs, exudation decreases and fewer changes will be required. Dressing change may require every day for the first few days. SeaSorb Soft Dressing should not be left on for more than 7 days.
When exudates levels have decreased SeaSorb Soft Dressing may be discontinued and replaced by a suitable dressing (e.g. Biatain Foam Dressing or Comfeel Plus Ulcer Hydrocolloid Dressing) to ensure continuation of wound healing.

Precautions for SeaSorb Soft Alginate Dressing:
SeaSorb Soft Dressing may be used on infected wounds under the discretion of a healthcare professional, together with appropriate therapy and frequent inspections depending on the clinical condition.
Wounds which are solely or mainly caused by an arterial insufficiency or diabetic ulcers should be inspected by a healthcare professional frequently, dependant on the clinical condition.
Not recommended for use on dry wounds.

Do not use on dry wounds or third degree burns.

Or heavily exudating wounds, dressing change may be required every day for the first few days. SeaSorb Soft Alginate Filler should be changed every seven days or more often as necessary. SeaSorb Soft Alginate Filler should be changed when the secondary dressing is replaced.
When exudate levels have decreased, SeaSorb Alginate Filler may be discontinued and replaced by suitable dressing, e.g. Comfeel Plus Hydrocolloid Ulcer dressing or Biatain Foam Dressings, to ensure continuation of wound healing.
Loosely fill the wound cavity with SeaSorb Filler while avoiding packing, which may cause excessive pressure in the wound.
