National Women's Health Week is running from May 13th – 19th. Coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office on Women's Health, this week is dedicated to spreading the word about important women's health issues and urging women to take control of their health needs.
National Women's Health Week brings many people together each and every year. The program encourages communities, businesses, governments and health organizations to rally around the women who impact their particular sectors, and beyond. Many employers and health organizations create their own celebrations and offer on-site checkup opportunities such as physicals, mammograms and screenings.
The theme for the 2010 National Women's Health Week is "It's Your Time," and it truly is. Many things are changing in healthcare, both good and bad, and it is your time to start taking control of opportunities to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Some suggestions for doing so include:
- Scheduling a Check-up - Preventative screenings - Getting active - Eating healthy - Taking care of your Stress and Mental Health - Avoiding unhealthy behaviors (like smoking, not wearing seatbelts, constant worrying, etc.)
Take this opportunity to gather strength in addressing your health and lifestyle. Change and medical news can be scary, but as humans, we are designed to deal with it. Celebrate your life and try to add a few years by taking control now and participating in National Women's Health Week.
