7 Natural Ingredients to Clean Almost Anything!

Cleaning your home with non-toxic products will leave you feeling gratified and relaxed because you will know your family’s health is not at risk. When you decide to ditch the toxic commercial cleansers in favor of homemade versions you can clean just about anything, believe it or not! So get your pen and paper out and make a list for your next trip to the grocery store.

Liquid Castile Soap: A Sudsing Power. To wash dishes, clean the floors or walls, use this all-natural, olive oil-based soap. Combine a cup of vinegar with a gallon of hot water and a few drops of soap.

Olive Oil: For Polishing Wood. Olive oil is a natural conditioner for wood, and can be used on skin and hair as well!

Pine Oil: For Cleaning Soft Wood Floors. Pine oil is a natural conditioner for wood floors and it smells clean and fresh.

Plant Essential Oils: A Chemical-Free Fragrance. Plant essential oils, although chemical free, can have a very strong smell so always do a sniff test before buying them to make sure you aren’t sensitive to the fumes. Also, use caution when handing pure essential oils. Just a few drops of an essential oil can add antibacterial and antifungal power to a cleaning solution. They leave behind a fresh scent so look for pure, undiluted essential oils in dark brown or blue bottles. Keep them away from sunlight.

Salt: For Scrubbing. To get rid of stubborn soap scum, combine baking soda and kosher salt and scrub. This will give you more power when scrubbing.

Washing Soda: For scrubbing, removing stains and cutting grease. Use washing soda to clean your toilets or you can mix it with water for a powerful all-purpose cleaner. Many natural cleaners recommend using borax, but more recent studies by the Environment Working Group have found that it’s extremely harsh, so replace borax with a slightly milder washing soda in nearly any recipe.

White Vinegar: Used for disinfecting and removing stains. White vinegar is considered the “powerhouse” of cleaning. It disinfects and deodorizes and serves as a go-to product for germ-ridden spots such as countertops, door handles and telephones.

Forget those expensive, toxic products sold in stores and switch to natural cleaning products. You will save yourself money and make your house a healthier environment for you and your family.
