A 2 year study conducted by NASA scientists and the Associated Landscape Contractors of America, have researched about a dozen plants for their added health benefits. The results show that some plants can absorb hazardous contaminants and produce clean air.

Chrysanthemums, originally cultivated in China in fifteenth century BC, have many medicinal and culinary uses. The plant is pretty with its yellow and white flowers and it is even enjoyed as a sweet drink in some parts of Asia, also its greens are boiled and served as a meal in China. In the NASA study, chrysanthemums proved to be effective at removing benzene from the air, which is one of the most common odorless pollutants found in inks, paints, plastics, dyes, detergents, gasoline, pharmaceuticals and pesticides. These flowers last about six weeks and thrive in bright, indirect light.
