July 4th Safety

With 4th of July right around the corner, many of us Americans will be visiting the beach, enjoying a beautiful fireworks display or firing up the grill for a backyard barbecue. We here at Mountainside Medical wanted to give you some tips to help keep you and your family safe this 4th of July. No matter where your travels may take you this week, always remember to pack your 4th of July ready first aid kit.

Some essentials for your first aid kit can include:

Over the counter pain medication Whether you’re bravely navigating the grocery store, or chatting it up with relatives, a headache may come your way. Be prepared with some Tylenol. Antibacterial gel Planning a camping trip? Don’t forget your hand sanitizer! Bug spray Keep the mosquitoes away during the fire works with some insect repellent. Sunscreen Fun in the sun isn’t fun after you get burned! Wear at least SPF 15 sunscreen and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Ointment for insect bites and sunburn Didn’t get a chance to follow the previous two tips? Grab some aloe burn gel for bites and sunburn as an aftercare item. Adhesive bandages Planning some fireworks or a BBQ? Be sure to have basic first aid supplies handy in the event of an accident. Allergy medication It’s no fun being outdoors if you’re sneezing through it! Take your Children's Allegra or Claritin along for the ride, just in case. Antacid Those brats not sitting well? Grab the Tums, so you can enjoy the rest of your day. Tweezers They’re not just for beautifying before the party. Tweezers are great for grasping splinters too. Diaper rash cream Don’t forget the little ones! The heat can cause little diapered bottoms to rash easier. Prevent diaper rash with a cream like Desitin or Boudreaux Butt Paste.

And above all...have fun! Whether you're planing that backyard BBQ, or going on a road trip, have a great time this week. Everyone here at Mountainside Medical would like to wish everyone a happy, healthy and safe 4th of July!
