Mountainside Participates in Utica NY Making Strides Walk

For the last 100 years, the American Cancer Society has been helping to save more than 400 lives a day that would otherwise have been lost to cancer. Through the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event, walkers who participate raise money and join in the fight against breast cancer. This year, Mountainside Medical Equipment is proud to say that as a team we raised $573.00 for the cause and two of our own employees participated in the walk!

On Sunday, October 20, 2013, our own Georgianna Rowe (Marketing) and Candace Roux (Customer Service) participated in the Utica, NY Making Strides Walk at the Masonic Campus. At the event, they noted how inspiring it was to see so many people who were affected by the disease in some way come together to join in the fight.

During the opening ceremony, one of the presenters asked all of the walkers to raise their hand if they were walking in support of someone they know who has been affected by breast cancer, “Almost every single person who attended the walk raised their hand. I believe this illustrates just how important and inspiring events such as the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk really are,” explained Georgianna.

This year, the Utica Making Strides walk raised $81,406.82 between the 154 teams and 998 individual participants which will help the American Cancer Society provide free information and services to those in need. The organization provides numerous services to patients and their families including providing someone to talk to in the middle of the night, rides to treatment centers, and even places for loved ones to stay while someone they love is in treatment away from home.

All in all, Candace and Georgianna were overwhelmed by the support and turn out at the event!  “I thought it was inspiring to see so many survivors. Each year it seems like there are more and more which would indicate the progress that is being made in the fight against breast cancer,” said Georgianna.

We would like to thank all who donated and joined Mountainside Medical in the fight against breast cancer this year. For more information on the Making Strides event, or to find a walk near you go to http://makingstrides.acsevents.org. Thank you again everyone!
