Minimally Invasive Cosmetic Surgery Safe

There is an inherent fear of complication that deters many individuals from considering cosmetic surgery. However, in a recent study published in JAMA Dermatology, it was found that the rate of complication from these procedures is negligibly low. Researchers indicate that decisions should not be affected by risk concerns.

In a review of over 20,000 cosmetic surgery procedures, it was found that the rate of complication was less than 1%. The study focused on various minimally invasive procedures such as fillers, neurotoxins, laser, and energy devices performed by 23 dermatologists. Even minor complications including swelling, bruising, redness, bumpiness, and skin darkening occurred in less than 1% of patients.

Researchers have indicated that though minor procedures are incredibly safe and effective, there is still an inherent risk of complication from major procedures. As the invasiveness of the procedure increases, the risk of complication also rose. The evidence from this study concludes that minimally invasive procedures, even multiple performed together, are unlikely to produce any negative complications.

This study is great news for those that find themselves physically, emotionally, or psychologically affected and seeking changes. Researchers indicate that the risk of complication is not a major concern for minimally invasive cosmetic surgery.
