Although Halloween is a great time for kids to dress up in costumes and enjoy parties and trick-or-treating, it is also important to remember Halloween safety.

Mountainside Medical would like to wish everyone a very safe and happy Halloween - check out these Halloween safety tips to help make the festivities fun and safe for all your trick-or-treaters and party guests!

S  Swords, knives and similar costume accessories should all be short, soft and flexible to avoid injury.

A  Avoid trick-or-treating alone. Always go with a group or a trusted adult.

F  Fasten reflective tape to costumes and bags so drivers will see you in the dark.

E  Examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering before eating them.

H  Hold a flashlight while trick-or-treating to help you see other people and to help others see you.

A  Always test costume make up in a small area of skin first and remove it before bed. After all, no one wants to spend Halloween with a rash on their face.

L  Look both ways before crossing the street.

L  Lower your risk of serious eye injury by avoiding those decorative contact lenses.

O  Only walk on sidewalks or on the far edge of the road to avoid cars.

W  Wear well-fitting masks, costumes and shoes to avoid blocked vision, trips and falls.

E  Eat only factory-wrapped treats. Try to avoid any homemade treats made by strangers.

E  Enter homes only with a trusted adult and only visit well-lit houses.

N  Never walk near lit candles and be sure to wear flame-resistant costumes.
