It's that time again! Welcome to another round of Trending Thursday! This week, we are spotlighting one of our favorite products - Ascend Silver Sulfadiazine Cream!
This 16 ounce jar is specifically designed to treat skin burns on humans, and animals as well! Ascend Silver Sulfadiazine Cream is a topical, silver skin cream that treats various types of burns, as well as prevents infection from those burns.
The Silver Sulfadiazine Cream is a soft soothing cream that is bactericidal for many gram negative and gram positive bacteria. It also works well against yeast. This cream has biochemical techniques that make this antimicrobial. That means, this cream is ideal for preventing and treating wound sepsis in patients with second and third degree burns.
We know that there are several types of burns out there - everything from sunburns to electrical burns, and more. This cream is used to take the harsh sting out from the burn, to heal it well, and to prevent any infection. One of the many highlights is that it works on a broad spectrum - from people to dogs, cats and even horses.
What makes this product stand out even more is that the Silver Sulfadiazine acts only on the cell membrane and cell wall to produce its bactericidal effect. This helps to decrease the risk of bacteria spreading to surrounding healthy skin, or to the blood where it can cause sepsis.
This product comes in 400 grams, which is equivalent to a 1 pound jar, tubes, or a 50 gram jar as well. Silver Sulfadiazine belongs to a class of drugs known as Sulfa Antibiotics, and should not be used on premature babies or on newborns up to two months of age due to the risk of serious side effects.
How to apply Silver Sulfadiazine Cream
Apply this medication to the wound using sterile techniques - such as wearing sterile gloves and using sterile application tools - as directed by a doctor, usually one to two times a day. The layer of medication should be approximately one-sixteenth of an inch, or 1 to 2 millimeters thick, or as directed.
The wound should be covered with the cream at all times. Dressings may be applied over the cream, but only if needed. If some of he cream rubs off of the wound, be sure to reapply it immediately. This cream should also be reapplied immediately after hydrotherapy.
Treatment usually continues until the wound is completely healed or until the site is ready for skin grafting. A health care professional will clean and remove the dead tissue from the wound to help the healing process. Be sure to use this medication regularly to obtain the most benefit from it. Using it at the same time each day, usually helps.
Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because they judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have any serious side effects.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist right away if you experience pain, burning, or itching of the treated skin. Skin and mucous membranes - such as the gums, may become blue or gray in color.
Also tell your doctor immediately if any of these rare, but serious side effects occur: signs of infection, such as fever, chills, persistent sore throat; easy bruising or bleeding; signs of anemia, such as unusual tiredness or weakness, rapid breathing, or fast heartbeat; signs of kidney problems, such as change in urine; signs of liver problems, such as stomach/abdominal pain, persistent nausea, vomiting, dark urine, yellowing eyes/skin; or mental or mood changes.
A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, please seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling - especially of the face, tongue, or throat, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing. [Contact your doctor or pharmacist for a full list of possible side effects.]
