Sodium Bicarbonate Injection

Sodium Bicarbonate Injection, USP is intended for the treatment of conditions such as metabolic acidosis, which may develop in cases of severe renal disease, uncontrolled diabetes, circulatory insufficiency due to shock or severe dehydration, extracorporeal blood circulation, cardiac arrest, and severe primary lactic acidosis. It is also effective in treating certain cases of drug intoxication, including those caused by barbiturates (when dissociation of the barbiturate-protein complex is necessary), salicylates or methyl alcohol poisoning, and hemolytic reactions requiring alkalinization of the urine to decrease the nephrotoxicity of hemoglobin and its by-products. Furthermore, sodium bicarbonate is recommended for severe diarrhea with significant bicarbonate loss.
