Contour® Blood Glucose Test Strips (100 count) – Ascensia Diabetes Care

These Contour® blood glucose test strips are a 100-count supply of over-the-counter (OTC) diabetes testing strips made by Ascensia Diabetes Care (formerly part of Bayer). They are intended for self-monitoring blood sugar at home. Each strip is used only once in a compatible Contour meter and delivers a fast glucose reading from a tiny finger-stick blood sample. (According to Ascensia, Contour strips are “intended for self-testing by persons with diabetes at home for the quantitative measurement of glucose in fresh capillary whole blood samples”. They are not for diagnosing or screening diabetes, but rather for daily monitoring of glucose as part of a diabetes management plan)

  • Usage: To use a Contour strip, first wash and dry your hands well. Open the bottle (or foil packet) and insert one strip into the Contour meter. Use a lancing device to prick your fingertip, producing a tiny blood drop. Touch the edge of the strip to the blood drop – the strip “sips” up the blood. The meter will beep and display your blood glucose level in a few seconds. (After testing, discard the used strip; do not reuse it.)

  • Key Features: Each Contour strip only needs a very small sample (≈0.6 µL) to measure glucose. Contour meters use “Second-Chance® Sampling,” giving you up to 20–60 seconds to reapply blood if the first sample is insufficient – this can reduce wasted strips. Ascensia reports that Contour strips provide highly accurate results (within about ±10% of laboratory glucose values) when used with approved Contour meters. The strips are FDA-cleared for self-testing and meet ISO accuracy standards (for example, the latest Contour systems meet ISO 15197:2015 criteria).

  • Compatibility: Contour strips are designed to work with Contour blood glucose meters. The current “Contour ®” test strips (sometimes called Contour Next) are compatible with Contour Next GEN, Contour Next One, Contour Next EZ, and similar Contour Next series meters. (If you have an older Contour meter, Ascensia offers a free upgrade program to the newer black/silver design meters.)

  • Packaging: A 100-count package typically comes as a bottle of 100 individually sealed strips. (Ascensia also sells Contour strips in 50-count boxes.) Store the strips at room temperature (41–86°F, 10–80% RH), in their original bottle with cap tightly closed (or in the sealed foil pouch), until use. Keep strips away from moisture and extreme heat. Discard strips after the expiration date printed on the bottle or pouch.

  • Additional notes: Contour strips are sold OTC (no prescription needed) and are widely available at pharmacies and online retailers. They are eligible for FSA/HSA spending accounts and are doctor-recommended for routine self-monitoring. Always follow the Contour meter and strip instructions carefully. For best results, calibrate your meter as instructed (modern Contour meters automatically code themselves to the strips) and perform control tests with Contour control solution when needed (e.g. when opening a new bottle of strips). After each use, close the vial immediately to protect the remaining strips. Dispose of used strips as medical waste. If you have any questions about using Contour strips, refer to the product insert or contact Ascensia’s customer support.
