View full detailsRegadenoson is an intravenous medication used as a pharmacologic stress agent in myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) for patients who are unable to exercise sufficiently. Acting as a coronary vasodilator, it increases blood flow to the heart, mimicking the effects of physical activity for diagnostic evaluation.
Use Regadenoson is employed to help diagnose heart conditions by enhancing blood flow to the heart, aiding in the detection of coronary artery disease during a stress test. It works more quickly and selectively than other stress agents such as adenosine, making it a popular choice for stress testing procedures.
Regadenoson Injection by Hikma is a pharmacologic stress agent used in myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) for patients unable to undergo adequate exercise stress. This prefilled syringe offers precise administration, enhancing diagnostic accuracy for cardiac assessments.
Usage: Regadenoson is used in radionuclide myocardial perfusion imaging to evaluate coronary artery disease in patients who cannot perform physical exercise stress tests.
Dosage:
CDC Guidelines: While the CDC doesn't have specific regadenoson guidelines, it underscores the importance of using diagnostic agents in controlled environments with appropriate monitoring due to potential cardiac effects.
Details and Features:
Mechanism of Action: Regadenoson selectively activates A2A adenosine receptors, causing coronary vasodilation and increased blood flow in the heart. This mimics the effects of exercise, enabling visualization of coronary blood flow and identifying coronary artery disease through imaging.
Directions for Use:
Warnings:
Side Effects: Possible side effects include:
Regadenoson Injection by Hikma delivers reliable, rapid-onset pharmacologic stress for accurate cardiac imaging, ensuring effective cardiovascular diagnostics in patients unable to exercise.

Side Effects: Possible side effects include:
Regadenoson Injection by Hikma delivers reliable, rapid-onset pharmacologic stress for accurate cardiac imaging, ensuring effective cardiovascular diagnostics in patients unable to exercise.
Regadenoson is used as a coronary vasodilator during a cardiac nuclear stress test (myocardial perfusion imaging) for patients who cannot exercise adequately.
It is administered as a quick intravenous (IV) injection (bolus) by a healthcare professional, usually in a hospital or cardiac imaging center, followed by an injection of a radioactive tracer.
Regadenoson increases blood flow in the coronary arteries, mimicking the effects of exercise so that areas of the heart with reduced blood supply can be detected during the scan.
Common side effects include shortness of breath, chest discomfort, flushing, headache, dizziness, abdominal pain, or nausea. Most side effects are short-lived and resolve within 15–30 minutes.
It should not be given to patients with certain types of heart block (unless they have a pacemaker), severe hypotension, or history of severe allergic reaction to regadenoson. Use with caution in patients with asthma or COPD due to risk of bronchospasm.
The main effects last for a few minutes, but minor side effects can persist for 15 minutes or more.
Inform your provider about all medical conditions, especially asthma, COPD, heart problems, or allergies. Also, list all medications and supplements you're taking.
Yes. You should avoid caffeine (coffee, tea, chocolate, energy drinks, soda) and theophylline-containing medications for at least 12 hours before the test, as they can interfere with the effects of regadenoson.
Continue most medications, but check with your healthcare team about any specific medications to withhold, especially those that could affect the test results.
Rarely, regadenoson can cause severe arrhythmias, heart attack, very low blood pressure, or severe allergic reactions. These are managed immediately in a clinical setting.
Its safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not well established. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, might be pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Regadenoson is primarily used in adults. Its use in children is not well established and is typically avoided unless specifically directed by a specialist.
Let medical staff know immediately if you feel severe chest pain, trouble breathing, or become faint—they are prepared to treat side effects rapidly.
Caffeine and theophylline-containing products can reduce its effect. Dipyridamole can increase its effects. Always tell your provider all drugs and supplements you use.
Most patients can go home on their own after observation, but if you feel unwell or if sedatives were used with the test, arrange for someone to drive you home.
