Fluconazole is an antifungal medication, prescribed for vaginal yeast infections, fungal meningitis, and urinary tract infections. It is also used to prevent candidiasis in patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation. This drug stops the growth of fungus by altering the formation of the fungal cell wall.
Most of the infections are caused by the overgrowth of a type of yeast called Candida albicans. Fluconazole (Diflucan), helps get rid of the infection by preventing the fungus from reproducing. Fluconazole (Diflucan) is used to prevent, treat, or cure a yeast infection.
