Sphygmomanometers

Sphygmomanometers are medical devices used to measure blood pressure. They typically consist of an inflatable cuff that wraps around the upper arm, a pressure gauge, and a bulb or electronic pump for inflating the cuff. The cuff is inflated until it blocks blood flow in the artery, and then slowly released to allow blood to flow through again. The pressure reading on the gauge indicates the force of the blood against the artery walls, which is used to determine the blood pressure. Sphygmomanometers can be manual, where the cuff is inflated and released by hand, or digital, where the cuff is inflated and released by a battery-operated pump and the pressure reading is displayed on a screen. They are commonly used in clinics, doctor's offices, and hospitals for diagnosing and monitoring hypertension (high blood pressure).
