Adult Diaper Changing Tips

An adult diaper is used for the same reasons as a baby diaper. Adults often suffer with weak bladders, urinary problems, and bedwetting. For these adults, an adult diaper can save them from embarrassing moments. Some pregnant women wear them as well. The reason is because babies often press down on the mother’s bladder while in the womb. Like a baby diaper, an adult diaper must be changed when it’s wet or soiled. This article will give you some pointers on changing an adult diaper.

When to Change an Adult Diaper
An adult diaper shouldn’t get too wet. Just like with baby diapers, keeping a wet adult diaper on for too long can result in diaper rash and bad odor. To prevent diaper rash, the diaper should be changed as soon as it becomes wet or soiled. People who wear diapers because of bedwetting should change their diapers when they awake. Some adults are able to change their own diapers. But many adults need help keeping themselves clean. If a person is invalid or mentally impaired, they’ll need someone to change their diaper for them.

How to Change an Adult Diaper
Changing an adult diaper is similar to changing a baby diaper, but it’s a bit more difficult. The first thing is to make sure you have the proper sized diaper. It should close easily and securely at the waist. This will prevent leaks when the wearer uses the diaper. A well-fitting adult diaper is also more comfortable to wear.

Remove the soiled diaper by unfastening the sticky tabs on the side. But you can’t just pull the diaper off like you would with a small baby. It’s also more difficult to get a diaper on an adult. Changing a baby diaper is relatively quick and easy. It takes a bit more work and elbow grease to change an adult diaper. Here are some pointers on a proper adult diaper change:
  • Slowly roll the diaper wearer on their side. Once the wearer is out of the way, fold the diaper so the wetness or stain is on the inside. Fold the diaper as far as possible so there’s no risk of it unfolding.

  • After you’ve folded the diaper on one side, slowly roll the wearer to the other side. Then you simply have to pull the diaper out from under the wearer. If the diaper doesn’t slide out easily, tuck the side the same as you did earlier. Then slowly roll the wearer again to the opposite side and pull the diaper away from the body.

  • Once the diaper is removed, gently clean the wearer’s bottom with a baby wipe or warm soap and water. Make sure to thoroughly dry the skin before putting on a new diaper. You may also want to apply some baby lotion or powder to prevent chafing.

  • To put on the new adult diaper, roll the wearer gently to one side and place the diaper beneath them. Push it as far underneath the wearer as possible, but make sure enough of the diaper will be available to close.

  • Gently roll the wearer to opposite side and pull the adult diaper so the wearer is in the middle of the diaper. Make sure the diaper is even on both side before you fasten it.

Changing an adult diaper isn’t easy. Depending on the size of the wearer, help may be needed to turn the person on their side. But with a little practice, you should be able to change an adult diaper fairly quickly.
