Catheterization is a common practice among healthcare professionals in patients who cannot urinate on their own. For a more permanent fix, a Foley catheter is inserted through the urethra and into the bladder, where the balloon is inflated with a sterile solution to keep the unit in place. The other end is attached to a collection bag that is strapped either to a hospital bed, or the patient’s leg, depending on the situation.
