Bacteriostatic sodium chloride injection is a sterile, USP nonpyronogenic sodium chloride (NaCl) used to dilute, dissolve drugs prior to injection. Not for inhalation. Each milliliter (ml) contains sodium chloride 9 mg and 0.9% (9 mg/ml) benzyl alcohol added as a bacteriostatic preservative. May contain hydrochloric acid for pH adjustment. The pH is 5.0 (4.5 to 7.0). Sodium Chloride, USP, chemically designated NaCl, an white crystalline powder freely soluble in water.

Bacteriostatic Sodium Chloride for injection has an extra preservative agent added into the solution called benzyl alcohol (BnOH). Benzyl alcohol is a colorless liquid that has low toxicity, and low vapor pressure. Sodium Chloride for injection is a single dose solution that does not contain any bacteriostatic, antimicrobial agents, and added buffers.
