Product Description

Amsino Suction Catheter are a long flexible vinyl tubing that is slide down into the airway through the endotracheal or tracheotomy tube and used to gently vacuum out secretions (mucus) that are deep inside the windpipe or throat airway. The opposite end of the suction catheter can easy attach to connecting tubing, which fastens to a suction canister that will collect the mucus. Whether critically ill or seriously injured, Suction Catheter's are used on patients who are not naturally clearing mucus from their endotracheal or tracheotomy tube. The purpose of suctioning is to prevent a patients airway of plugging up from secretions. Amsino's Suction Catheter has a built-in thumb control valve that allows the patient to control the performed flow of suction. Frequency of suctioning is determined by the amount of secretions that the patient produces. When fluid builds up in the lungs, the breathing tube is suctioned.

Proper Suction Catheter Size Used On Trach Patient

There are a few things that should be known before you suction a patient's airway:
1. The thickness of the suction catheter should never be any larger than half the internal diameter I.D.(inside opening) of the tracheotomy tube. Your doctor or care giver will tell you the correct size of suction catheter to use.

2. The airways are fragile and delicate and care should be taken whenever you push in or pull out the catheter. Suction should be used only as you pull out the catheter. This suction should be off and on, and gentle.

3. Suctioning must NEVER be done for more than 5 to 10 seconds at a time. When you are suctioning out secretions, you are also removing air from the lungs. This could lead to oxygen being taken out from the body.

4. At first this will be frightening to both you and the patient; he / she will need your confidence, support, kindness and love.

5. You will receive training for all suction techniques at the hospital before your loved one goes home.
