What is Muscular Dystrophy?
MD, or Muscular Dystrophy is defined as a group of degenerative disorders involving the weakening or loss of muscle tissue over time.
Causes of Muscular Dystrophy
There is no identified cause for Muscular Dystrophy, the condition is passed down through generations.
Symptoms of Muscular Dystrophy
The primary symptoms that may indicate a patient has Muscular Dystrophy are mental retardation (more rare), and progressive muscle weakness, such as delayed development, loss of function, loss of strength, and reduced size.
Testing for Muscular Dystrophy
Physical examination for Muscular Dystrophy may include checking for conditions such as abnormal spine curvature, joint contractures, and low muscle tone. Other testing may include heart, nerve, and blood testing. Results for these tests may include conditions such as scoliosis, clubfoot, hypotonia, and arrhythmia.
