Celebrate Your Heart in February

 February is American Heart Month and it is used to raise  awareness for the causes of heart disease and providing  steps that you can take to prevent it from happening to you.  In a recent article by healthfinder.gov, it states, “Heart disease  is the leading cause of death for men and women in the  United States. Every year, 1 in 4 deaths are caused by heart disease.” Becoming aware of your daily lifestyle choices is essential for leading a healthier and longer life.

Here are a few tips you can follow to increase your time on this earth:

  • Walk 15-30 minutes, 3-4 times per week
  • Reduce your salt intake with herbs and spices
  • Eat fish with omega-3s (tuna, salmon, haddock)
  • Consume almonds and walnuts
  • Go for yearly check-ups with your primary care physician

Once you implement these tips into your daily life, become an advocator and encourage people around you to start leading a healthier lifestyle as well.
