Every year since 1998, February 14th is National Donor Day. It was started by the Saturn Corporation with its United Auto Workers partner along with the support of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In the present day, nearly 120,000 are on the waiting list to receive a lifesaving transplant. Among the 120,000 on the waiting list, there is an abundance of individuals who are in need of a cornea, tissue, bone marrow, blood, and platelet donation.
Here are the five points of life that are recognized on National Donor Day:
Since this day falls on February 14th every year, which is Valentine’s Day, it is the perfect time to register as an organ, eye, and tissue donor. Doing so will ensure that a brother, daughter, son, sister, parent, or grandparent’s life is saved.
One donor can save up to eight lives and heal more than 75 lives with just one registration!
