Topical Antibiotics

Topical antibiotics are used to treat and prevent bacterial infections of the skin and mucous membranes. Topical antibiotics work by killing or inhibiting the growth of bacteria, keeping the infection from spreading and allowing the skin to heal. Some common uses of topical antibiotics include the treatment of acne, impetigo, and minor skin infections like cuts and scrapes. They may also be used in a prophylactic manner to prevent or decrease the risk of infection after surgery or medical procedures.
