The health of seniors in America is just as important as the health of any other citizen. Today marks the 19th Annual National Senior Health and Fitness day which is held every year on the last Wednesday of May.
This day is designed to encourage our seniors to get out into their community and take advantage of health and fitness programs and practices. This year, it is expected that 100,000 older adults will participate in National Senior Health and Fitness Day at more than 1,000 locations across the nation!
The goal of National Senior Health and Fitness Day is to help keep older Americans healthy and fit and raise awareness of daily health and exercise practices. Local organizations will host a variety of activities based on the interests and needs of the seniors in their communities. Some activities will include:
- Low-impact workout routines - Walks - Health screenings for both men and women - Workshops to teach tools for carrying on health regimens
Remember to encourage any seniors in your family to place a high importance on their health and fitness. Encourage them to join fellow older American community members on a day of health and fun dedicated to their needs and interests. National Senior Health and Fitness Day is not only great for spreading the word about health and fitness to seniors, it is also designed to impact people socially. After all, fitness is always better with a buddy!
