All of the children are back in school, college dorms are filled. Sundays have now become inevitably consumed by football. The trees dazzle in splashes of oranges, reds, yellows, and green. Gradually, those stunning leaves begin to dance and sway to the ground as the branches let go of yet another year. The days grow shorter and the nights grow longer. Cozy blankets, knitted sweaters, and hot chocolate replace tan lines, flip-flops, and bathing suits. The sun rises, the seasons change, and through it all, you know it's time to trust the magic of new beginnings. Welcome to Autumn.
We are officially a week in to the Autumn season, and you can already feel the chill in the air! The cooler, dew filled mornings, the warm, breezy afternoons, and the crisp, dark nights are a stark contrast to those blazing Summer days we all experienced not too long ago.
While Autumn is a beautiful season - especially in Upstate, NY - it's important to remember that with Autumn comes a lot of changes to our environment, which poses us at risk for certain health conditions. Before fully jumping into this season, it's best to be prepared for anything and everything that Autumn can bring!
1. Hand Sanitizer, Hand Wipes, Hand Soap
Unfortunately, it's that time of year when germs come out to play. As the weather changes, germs begin to fill the air and cause those wonderful viruses we all know and love. That's why it's imperative to carry a form of hand sanitizer with you at all times and to wash your hands as often as possible - especially before eating. When soap isn't readily available, the next best things come in the form of pocket sized bottles, such as Purell, or pocket sized hand wipes, such as Wet Ones. They kill 99.9% of germs and are easy to carry with you, or give to your child(ren) in school!
2. Disinfecting Supplies
Going hand in hand with the above point, germs are everywhere and Autumn is a typical time when allergies and colds, and other numerous viruses begin to surface. Keep your home, counter, work space, bathroom, or any area that you're in, clean with disinfecting sprays, wipes, and more! Wiping down door knobs/handles, light switches, shopping carts, and even your own cell phone can help prevent the spread of nasty germs.
3. Asthma and Allergy Medication
This time of year can be rough for those who have seasonal allergies, or struggle with asthma. The changing environment often releases particles in the air that can easily trigger asthma or allergy symptoms. Be sure to stock up on all of the necessary medications, inhalers, and nebulizers that you need to breathe better during Autumn!
4. Cold & Flu Medicine
Do you see a theme here? Because colds and the flu often happen without warning, it's always a great idea to stock up on medicine that will help with both! For the flu, it's highly recommended to protect yourself with the flu vaccination. True, the vaccine itself may not protect against certain strains of the flu, but it will surely lighten up your symptoms and help boost your immunity. Be sure to also keep some Zinc tablets on hand, as Zinc is a powerful tool to help fight illness!
Given the above information, this bullet point shouldn't come as much of a surprise! Tissues, tissues, and more tissues are a necessity when you're dealing with fall allergies, colds, or anything really. Be sure to always carry some with you. We even have pocket sized packets that are perfect for on the go travel!
Does anyone experience dry, chapped lips this time of year? An effective solution for that is Chapstick! Portable, lightweight, easily accessible, you never want to leave the house without this handy! Our favorite is the 100% Natural Lip Butter in the Sweet Papaya flavor! It is all natural, provides your lips with 8 hours of moisturization, and leaves your lips feeling softer and healthier.
7. Hand Cream & Body Lotion
Do you struggle with dry, flaky, itchy skin? Then you may want to keep some hand cream and/or body lotion on hand! Due to the change in the air, and with the weather getting gradually cooler, naturally our skin tends to dry out quickly. Stop hiding your skin during the fall, and start replenishing it!
8. Essential Oils
If you're a fan of essential oils, then you will love what they can do for you in Autumn! Not only do several essential oils pack in nutrients and help ease discomfort, they also smell amazing! If you have a diffuser, take advantage of it and all of the various blends to make your home smelling like Fall! For ideas on different fragrances to blend together, explore Pinterest or Google. They have a plethora of ideas!
