Urinary Tract infections are common among patients who aren’t able to empty their bladder regularly due to an inactive bladder sphincter (part of the bladder that keeps urine from leaking) or bladder nerve damage that prevents the muscle around it from contracting and releasing urine. This is due to an increased amount of bacteria in the bladder, urethra and kidneys and, if left untreated, it can cause kidney damage.
