I use a catheter, how can I prevent frequent Urinary Tract infections?

Urinary Tract infections are common among patients who aren’t able to empty their bladder regularly due to an inactive bladder sphincter (part of the bladder that keeps urine from leaking) or bladder nerve damage that prevents the muscle around it from contracting and releasing urine. This is due to an increased amount of bacteria in the bladder, urethra and kidneys and, if left untreated, it can cause kidney damage. Whether you are using a foley catheter or Intermittant catheter these types of situations can be avoided.

It can be uncomfortable, so catheters that come with supplies and are contoured to be easily inserted and removed – such as a coude catheter – are immensely helpful. This particular coudé catheter is not only pre-lubricated for smooth insertion, but is also designed to prevent bacteria from adhering to the catheter and comes with extras to help keep you clean and germ-free. Most of the bacteria that causes an infection is localized at the begnning of the urethra, and this introducer tip prevents it from being carried all the way up to the bladder, decreasing the patient’s risk of contracting a UTI.
