Place the mask over the patient's face so that the apex of the triangle covers the bridge of his nose and the base lies between his lower lip and chin. Hold the mask on, taking care to avoid soft tissue by keeping your fingers on the bony part of the jaw.
Make sure the patient's mouth remains open beneath the mask. Attached the bag to the mask and to the tubing leading to the oxygen source.
Alternatively, if the patient has a tracheostomy tube or an ETT in place, remove the mask from the bag and attach the handheld resuscitation bag directly to the tube.
