Aminophylline

Aminophylline is a medication used primarily as a bronchodilator to treat symptoms of asthma, chronic bronchitis, and other lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It works by relaxing the muscles of the airways, thereby increasing airflow to the lungs. Aminophylline is a complex of theophylline with ethylenediamine, which improves its solubility and absorption. In some cases, it is also used in critical care settings to manage apnea in premature infants. Its use requires monitoring of blood levels due to a narrow therapeutic index and potential side effects.
