Etomidate Injections

Etomidate injection is a short-acting intravenous anesthetic agent primarily used for the induction of general anesthesia and sedation in various medical procedures. It works by depressing the central nervous system, providing rapid onset of unconsciousness within seconds of administration, which makes it especially valuable in emergency settings, such as rapid sequence intubation. Etomidate is favored for its minimal cardiovascular and respiratory depressant effects compared to other induction agents, making it particularly useful in patients who are hemodynamically unstable. The drug is usually administered as a single IV bolus, and while it is effective and generally well-tolerated, it may be associated with side effects such as myoclonus (involuntary muscle movements), nausea, vomiting, pain at the injection site, and, rarely, suppression of adrenal gland function.
