Griseofulvin medications are an antifungal medication primarily used to treat dermatophyte infections, which are fungal infections of the skin, hair, and nails. The drug is effective against various species of dermatophytes, such as Trichophyton, Microsporum, and Epidermophyton. Griseofulvin medications works by interfering with fungal cell division, effectively stopping the growth of the fungus. It is usually taken orally as tablets or suspension and is often required to be taken with a fatty meal to enhance absorption. Treatment with griseofulvin can be long-term, lasting several weeks to months, depending on the site and severity of the infection. As always, its use should be guided by a healthcare provider to ensure appropriateness and safety.
