Fluorouracil Topical Cream 5% (also known as 5-FU) is a prescription medication that is applied to the skin to treat certain types of skin cancer and precancerous skin lesions. It belongs to a class of medications called antimetabolites, which work by inhibiting the growth of cancer cells. The 40 gram refers to the weight or amount of cream in the tube. It is used topically, meaning it is applied directly to the affected area of the skin, and is available in a cream form with a strength of 5%. It is typically applied one to two times daily for several weeks or months under the guidance and supervision of a healthcare provider. It is important to carefully follow the instructions provided by your doctor to ensure safe and effective use of this medication.

Fluorouracil Topical Cream 5% is a medication used to treat actinic keratoses, a type of pre-cancerous skin lesion, and superficial basal cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer. It works by inhibiting the growth of abnormal skin cells. It may also be used to treat other types of skin conditions, such as warts or psoriasis.

How to use Fluorouracil Topical Cream 5%:
1. Read the prescription label and patient information leaflet carefully before starting to use fluorouracil topical cream. Follow the instructions given by your doctor or pharmacist.
2. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after applying the cream.
3. Clean the affected area with mild soap and water and pat it dry.
4. Squeeze a pea-sized amount of fluorouracil topical cream onto your fingertip or onto a clean applicator.
5. Gently rub the cream onto the affected area using the tip of your finger or applicator. Make sure to cover the entire area completely.
6. Wash your hands after applying the cream, unless you are treating your hands.
7. Apply the cream once or twice a day, or as directed by your doctor. Do not use the cream more often than prescribed as it may increase the risk of side effects.
8. Do not wrap, cover, or bandage the treated area, unless directed by your doctor.
9. If you accidentally get the cream on healthy skin, wash it off immediately with soap and water.
10. It is normal to experience redness, scaliness, and crusting of the skin as the cream works. These side effects should improve with continued use of the medication. If severe irritation or discomfort occurs, contact your doctor.
11. Avoid exposure to sunlight or tanning beds while using fluorouracil topical cream. If you need to go outdoors, wear protective clothing and use a sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.
12. Do not use cosmetic products that may irritate the treated area, such as products containing alcohol, astringents, or lime, while using this medication.
13. Do not use other skin medications or treatments on the same area without consulting your doctor first.
14. Treatment with fluorouracil topical cream may take several weeks. Continue using the cream as directed, even if improvements are not immediately seen.
15. Dispose of any unused medication properly according to local guidelines. Do not flush down the toilet or pour it into a drain unless instructed to do so.
