Derma Sciences Dumex Tracheostomy Drain Sponges are a sterile, non-woven gauze sponge that absorbs draining fluid around Tracheostomy tubes and Enteral feeding tubes. Trach care drain sponges provide a highly-absorbent, low-linting sponge that quickly wicks fluid away from the tube site, preventing skin irritation. Trach Drainage Sponges work perfect around any type of surgically placed tube that is inserted in the body were fluid leaks around. Made from a soft gauze material that is 6-ply thick for optimal performance and durability without sticking to the wound.
Â
How can a non-woven Tracheostomy Sponge benefit my patients?
AÂ Tracheostomy is a surgical procedure that involves creating an opening (stoma) through the windpipe in order to help a person with severe breathing trouble to breathe, or for patients who have had their voice box removed due to cancer. It can also be used for patients who require long-term breathing support through a ventilator.
In any case, one important part of caring for a tracheostomy is keeping the opening clean and making sure that no excess fluid or debris is going to be aspirated into the lungs. Non-woven gauze is great for this situation. It is more absorbent than woven gauze and will keep the wound dry and clean as it wicks away moisture in order to prevent infection an accidental aspiration. This particular Derma Science brand drainage sponge is also fast-absorbing, low linting (to promote safety and a clean wound free of excess debris) and latex free, to prevent an allergic reaction to the material.
