Scabicides and Pediculicides used to combat lice, bed bug, and scabie mite infestations. Scabies are a transmissible skin infestation with Sarcoptes scabieivar. bominis (itch mite). These mites burrow into the skin on contact, progressing 2 to 3 mm per day. Females live about 4 to 6 weeks and lay about 40 to 50 eggs, which hatch in 3 to 4 days. Pruritus (severe itching) occurs only after sensitization to the mite develops. With initial infestation, sensitization requires several weeks, With reinfestation, sensitization develops within 24 hours.
