Litmus paper, as its name implies, is primarily composed of paper. The paper used to make litmus paper must be free of contaminants that could change the pH of the system it is measuring.
Dip test paper into the test solution or wet the strip by contact with the test material. Remove the test strip immediately and compare the color of the strip to the color chart on the dispenser. The number associated with the color is the pH reading.
