Tazarotene Cream 0.1% (sometimes written as 0.01% in error, but the most common prescription strengths are 0.05% and 0.1%) is a topical retinoid medication used in dermatology. Its active ingredient, tazarotene, is a derivative of vitamin A and belongs to the class of drugs known as retinoids.

What Is Tazarotene Cream 0.1% Used For?

Tazarotene Cream 0.1% is commonly prescribed for:

  • Acne Vulgaris: Helps treat and prevent pimples and blackheads by affecting skin cell growth and reducing inflammation.
  • Psoriasis: Treats mild to moderate plaque psoriasis by slowing down the overgrowth of skin cells.
  • Fine Wrinkles, Dark Spots, and Other Signs of Aging: Sometimes used off-label for photodamaged skin.

Directions for Use

Warnings

  • Pregnancy Warning: Contraindicated during pregnancy—can harm the unborn baby (Category X).

  • Avoid Sunlight: Increased risk of sunburn; use adequate sun protection.
